Susan Elizabeth Dorman, MD

Susan E. Dorman, M.D. is an infectious diseases specialist who focuses on tuberculosis (TB) and other mycobacterial infections. Dr. Dorman joined the MUSC Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases in 2017 after serving for 16 years on the faculty of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland, where she rose to the rank of professor. Dr. Dorman was born and raised in Connecticut, where she attended Trinity College. After graduation from Duke University School of Medicine, Dr. Dorman completed her internal medicine internship and residency at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts.Dr. Dorman began her career-long interest in tuberculosis and mycobacterial diseases during her infectious diseases fellowship at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. Subsequently as a faculty member at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, she served as medical director for the Baltimore City Tuberculosis Control Program, and she has co-authored state and national guidelines for management of tuberculosis. Dr. Dorman leads a research team that focuses on development of new tuberculosis tests and treatments and is funded by the National Institutes of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.In addition to tuberculosis and mycobacterial infections, Dr. Dorman’s clinical interests include tropical medicine/travel medicine, and the care of persons living with HIV.
