Tommy Baker has served on the Children's Hospital Fund (CHF) Advisory Board for over a decade and in his time on the board has served as Chairman. With such long-standing devotion to the CHF Advisory Board, Tommy has witnessed the incredible growth and impact of the board's efforts in supporting the MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children's Hospital and Pearl Tourville Women's Pavilion and the patients that it serves.

"My involvement on the CHF Advisory Board has been incredibly fulfilling," Tommy said. "The importance of this work cannot be overstated, as every effort we make helps improve healthcare outcomes and provides much needed support to families during challenging times."

A family legacy

Recently, Tommy's daughter, Cassie Baker, also joined the CHF Advisory Board. Cassie's memories of her family's involvement with the children's hospital are deeply cherished, and she vividly recalls attending various fundraising events with her parents. Most notably, she remembers that these events were always filled with a sense of purpose and community.

"Volunteering alongside my parents, whether it was helping to organize events, participating in charity drives or visiting the hospital to deliver gifts and cheer to the children, left a lasting impression on me," said Cassie.

Seeing firsthand the positive impact of her family's efforts on the lives of children and their families inspired Cassie from a young age to continue this important work and taught her the value of giving back to the community.

"Knowing that Cassie will continue our family's legacy of service on the board fills me with immense pride and joy," said Tommy. "It signifies the continuation of our commitment to the community and the values we hold dear. Seeing her passion and dedication to the cause reassures me that the future is in good hands."

As a new member, Cassie is most looking forward to contributing fresh ideas and a new energy to the board's efforts. Cassie brings with her exciting perspectives to board discussions and initiatives.

"I am excited to collaborate with experienced members and learn from their wealth of knowledge and insights," said Cassie. "This collaboration will help me understand the nuances of our mission and how best to drive initiatives that will benefit the children and families we serve."

Building a new bond through the board

Participating in the CHF Advisory board together is a unique and rewarding experience for both Tommy and Cassie. Working side by side, Tommy and Cassie can support and inspire one another to make an even greater impact.

"This time together strengthens our bond and allows us to share in the joy of giving back to the community," said Tommy.

Cassie finds that serving on the CHF Advisory board with her father allows her the unique opportunity to follow in his footsteps and learn from his dedication, experience and leadership.

"My father has always been a role model for me," said Cassie. "This shared experience is a special privilege to contribute together to a cause that we both care so deeply about, and it motivates me to uphold the high standards he has set."

Family favorites

You can find Tommy and Cassie at many of the events supporting the children's hospital, but when it comes to CHF participation in events, the saying "like father, like daughter" really rings true for Tommy and Cassie. Both Tommy and Cassie hold favored memories of the annual Bull's Bay Golf Event.

"This event is a fantastic occasion that brings together supporters in a fun and competitive environment, all for a great cause," said Tommy. "The tournament not only raises essential funds but also fosters a sense of camaraderie and community spirit. It's a wonderful opportunity to engage with fellow supporters, celebrate our collective efforts, and contribute to the hospital in a meaningful way."
