For Dawn Dyke, joining the Children’s Hospital Fund (CHF) Advisory Board feels like coming home. Dawn has dedicated four years to the board, serving from 2014 to 2017 before moving to Napa, California. Returning to Charleston in 2023, she eagerly recommitted to her role. Previously on the nominations committee, she now contributes to the development committee.

A fierce advocate for children

Dawn believes that every child, no matter their circumstances, deserves the best care.

"All children deserve access to good health care," Dawn asserts. "I'm passionate about helping children get the best care, whether it’s during tragic circumstances, ongoing health battles, mental health crises or trauma."

Dawn feels grateful to live so close to the No. 1 children’s hospital in South Carolina. She’s proud to help ensure the MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital and Pearl Tourville Women’s Pavilion (SJCH/PTWP) remains a beacon of excellence.

An experienced fundraiser

When first approached to serve, Dawn was captivated by the hospital’s vision.

"I was impressed by Dr. Darby’s vision and his monumental work for our community," Dawn recalls. "My husband, Bear, and I wanted to join the excitement of the capital campaign to build a new state-of-the-art facility."

Dawn’s experience as a fundraiser in Washington, D.C., where she served on the board of Children’s National Hospital, made her a natural fit for the development committee.

"Bringing people together with a shared mission is crucial for the hospital’s success," Dawn says. "Serving on the development committee enables community outreach, which is vital for SJCH, and I aim to be a strong advocate."

Loves learning and collaboration

Dawn enjoys many CHF Advisory Board events, but her favorite moments are collaborating with fellow board members.

"Each board meeting includes a presentation where we learn something new," Dawn shares. "I absorb all the information and leave feeling more educated and hopeful about my role in supporting this incredible institution."

Dawn’s dedication, experience and passion make her an invaluable member of the CHF Advisory Board, continually striving to elevate the hospital’s mission and outreach.
