Since 2005, Mike Jernigan has been a pillar on the Children’s Hospital Fund Advisory Board. His roles have been many: development committee member, committee chair, vice chair and board chairman.

A long history with MUSC Children’s Health

Mike’s journey with MUSC Children’s Health began in 1996. He teamed up with Dr. Charles Darby to expand access to pediatric care.

"As the founder of Select Health of South Carolina, we provided seed capital for new practice locations in Summerville, North Charleston, Moncks Corner, and Charleston, focusing on underserved families," Mike said. "We also backed the early days of the Darby Children’s Research Institute.

Serving the CHF Advisory Board

Mike’s tenure as chair has been a period of transformation. He reinvigorated the board with hospital tours, filled committee gaps and groomed new leaders in support of the MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital.

“In collaboration with Dr. Darby and others, my focus has been to improve the health of South Carolina's children,” Mike stated. “Even after my term ends in December, I will continue to serve on the advisory board in support of the children's hospital mission.”

Mike cherishes the friendships and collaborations formed over the years. He’s particularly proud of the hospital's enhanced fundraising and the recruitment of top pediatric specialists, thanks to the Darby Children’s Research Institute.

One fundraising event stands out for Mike – the annual Bull’s Bay Golf Tournament.

“So many have contributed to this event over the years,” Mike said. “Charles Darby IV is now doing a fantastic job leading it with a hardworking staff who always go above and beyond.”

A thank you from the CHF team

The Children's Hospital Fund team deeply appreciates Mike’s tireless dedication.

“We cannot thank Mike Jernigan enough for his service to the CHF Advisory Board and the children we care for every day,” said Wanda Bazemore, interim director of the Children’s Hospital Fund. “His generous support has strengthened Shawn Jenkins Children's Hospital. His legacy will live on through his collaborative efforts, and we look forward to working with him as he continues to serve.”
