Sleep Play Heal

Decorative ImageSleep Play Heal is a comprehensive, multidisciplinary program in the Pediatric ICU that aims to combat the complications often associated with critical illness and an intensive care stay. Critical illness and hospitalization in the intensive care unit can be physically, emotionally, and cognitively challenging for children and their families. The goal of the Sleep Play Heal inpatient program is to improve outcomes and long-term success for the children and families that require pediatric critical care services.

Services Provided

• Medication management to optimize pain control and comfort
• Breathing exercises to improve strength and reduce need for ventilator support
• Management and prevention of confusion and sleep disruption
• Movement and exercise to promote activity, strength, and recovery
• Family engagement in daily care & caregiver resources to improve the ICU experience

What to expect during your child’s stay

If your child needs care in the pediatric intensive care unit, you can expect to encounter the Sleep Play Heal program components during your stay. This may include all or a portion of the services we offer, depending on your specific child. Ask your care team for more information during your inpatient stay.

Team members

Sleep Play Heal is comprised of a multidisciplinary inpatient team including physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, patient care technicians, child life specialists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech language pathologists.

The team incorporates Sleep Play Heal into patient’s care plans to inspire the feeling of returning to normal. Children want to play and move which they can achieve more quickly with structured and guided activities initiated while your child is inpatient.
