Take a Tour

Dr. Barbara Head gives a tour of the only fetal center in South Carolina for families who learn of a fetal anomaly with their unborn child.

Learning that your baby has been diagnosed with a birth defect can be overwhelming. The MUSC Advanced Fetal Care Center is here for you and your family. The Advanced Fetal Care Center is not only a regional referral center but is also a national leader in the care of pregnancies complicated by a prenatal diagnosis that requires treatment during pregnancy or after delivery. Our team is committed to optimizing the outcome of mothers and their babies in a family-centered environment.

Why Choose Our Advanced Fetal Care Center?

No parent ever expects to hear that there is a potential problem with their unborn child. However, approximately 2 to 3% of pregnancies in the United States are affected by a birth defect regardless of the health of the mother or family history.

Our team of maternal fetal medicine and pediatric specialists at the Advanced Fetal Care Center work with families to accurately diagnose fetal anomalies, treat those pregnancies in which antenatal therapies are effective and treat the newborn. The Advanced Fetal Care Center is a multi-disciplinary group of providers that meet with families before the birth of their newborn and help with coordination of the specialized care that their baby will need before and after birth. In a shared decision-making model, our team works with families to ensure the best outcomes for both mothers and their newborns. serves as a portal of entry for families into well-coordinated, specialized care at MUSC Health.
